Dove Project - Creating Opportunities for Victims of Domestic Violence
When One Door Closes, Another Door Opens or at Least it Needs To!
The Dove Project lost it's VAWA (Violence Against Women's Act) grant
this year. This grant paid for a portion of a salary and counseling
money. Then the Governor's Office, Criminal Justice Division asked us
to extend our current VOCA grant which would end on June 30 and
try to keep our shelter open for 2 months (July and August) without
any funding except for 40% of salaries.
Therefore, the Dove Project will be closing its doors temporarily for
90 days or until some other funding comes through. However, the electric,
and one telephone line, and internet will remain on. Now more than ever
we are going to have to rely on volunteers to be willing to take crisis
calls and on the work of the Domestic Violence Taskforce. To speak to
someone or to volunteer, please call 1-325-372-4357 (HELP).
We will not be able to put anyone in the shelter at the Dove Project.
Off the Beaten Path Ministries, Inc. OTBPM is a 501c3 non-profit organization
that reaches out to families affected by domestic violence.

With the guidance of The Wolf Group, The Dove Project website and outreach
will expand and evolve. Jobs and opportunities for victims of domestic
violence, in every county in Texas, will be a primary goal. This will
begin in the Central Texas area and spread outward. We need everyone,
from every walk of life to be involved. Volunteer networking is the
only way that this huge project will ever become a reality.

My inspiration has always been and will continue to be my great uncle,
Harry
N. Graves, who with Governor Dan Moody's support wrote the legislation
which created the Texas Department of Public Safety which now employees
thousands and oversees other state agencies. We still have and use the
set of Wedgwood that was given to Harry and Vitula Graves by Governor
Moody. Thankfully, they were in Georgetown when my home in Cherokee,
Texas burned to the ground in January of 2004.
We also host the website, Abused
Christian Women, which we have had online since 2001 in honor of
Heidi. I can't hardly believe it's been nine years.
