A collection of resources for Christian women living in, escaping, or recovering from abusive relationships.
Along with resources for their friends, counselors and pastors.

Christian women face unique challenges when dealing with abusive relationships. Our spiritual instincts bid us to find help from our church body. Unfortunately, the church and its leaders often know little about domestic abuse, and their well-intentioned advice often prolongs or worsens the abuse.

The Reverend Al Miles, author of "Domestic Violence: What Every Pastor Needs to Know," says that almost none of the 158 pastors he interviewed for his book had any training in dealing with domestic violence. According to Miles, one of the most pervasive myths believed by pastors is that "Christian survivors need only faith, prayer, a positive attitude, and God to be freed from domestic violence."

When victims hear this attitude, they naturally blame themselves for the continuing abuse and violence in their relationships. We come to believe that if we were only more spiritual, the violence would end. Unfortunately, domestic violence seldom ends this way.

Domestic violence isn't just physical violence. Verbal, emotional, psychological, sexual and financial abuse are also violent. Many victims report that emotional and verbal abuse are the hardest forms of abuse to recover from.
