Loss of Benefits
If you have benefits through your spouse,
this is certainly something that must be considered
but if your life is in danger- then you have no choice,
you must leave.
If on the other hand your situation hasn't yet escalated
to physical violence, you have some time to make a safety
plan and a long term survival plan.
Your safety plan should include:
Keeping clothes for
your and your children elsewhere
Keeping copies of important
documents elsewhere to include:
Insurance policies: life, health and auto, bank account
information, birth certificates, drivers license, social
security cards, diploma, college transcripts, work history,
letters of reference, credit card information and copies
of your seperate and joint cards (you may need to cancel
them.
Make contact with your
local Dometic Violence Center. They may be able to assist
you in keeping copies of important documents. Find out
what kind of services they do offer.
Your long term survival plan should include:
Where you will relocate
if you must.
Where you will be working
Medical Insurance especially
if you have any health issues.
Dependable vehicle
If you have children,
a knowledge of the schools in the area. Do they offer
a good education and opportunities for your chidlren?
Also, information about area (and otherwise) colleges.
If you aren't prepared
to be out in the work world and able to make
a living in a way that pays for how YOU want to be living,
consider getting
more education now. College, business school and internships
could be
considered.
